As the COVID-19 pandemic forces industry events online, the organizers of the 2020 Rx Drug Abuse and Heroin Summit have created a Virtual Experience featuring more than 70 learning sessions led by national experts. Among today’s was “Transforming PDMPs into Integrated Clinical Platforms to Enable Impactful Progress Towards Reducing Opioid Overdoses and Deaths,” presented by our own Brad Bauer, Senior Vice President of Business Development.
Bauer outlined the evolution and best practices of the PDMP industry, and the role Appriss Health has played in the industry’s rapid PDMP innovation and growth.
In more detail, Bauer illustrated how integrating PDMP information, analytics, and resources into EHR and pharmacy management system workflow is a critical next step in the progression of optimizing PDMPs to make a meaningful difference in the opioid epidemic.
Bauer also highlighted the continuity of care ecosystem that Appriss Health has created, which now includes the OpenBeds® assessment and digital referral network, which easily locates and refers patients to appropriate, available treatment providers and support services in real time, either as a stand-alone platform or in clinical workflow.
When asked by the facilitator if he could point to the most important accomplishment of the PDMP industry to date, Bauer said, “One of the takeaways I would emphasize is that we’re able to deliver all of this clinical information in workflow. This provides a significant and measurable benefit for physicians and pharmacists. Some states have seen a 10-fold increase in PDMP usage. The impact they’re making on opioid prescription dispensations in their states is really dramatic.”
Thanks to the more than 1,800 participants in today’s sessions, and to the Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Learning Network — organizers of the Rx Drug Abuse and Heroin Summit — for inviting Appriss Health to be a part of this important conversation.
