Powerful Analytics and Clinical Resources to Help Quickly Identify and Prevent Patient Risk and Substance Use Disorder
LOUISVILLE, KY – June 26, 2018 – Appriss Health, provider of the most comprehensive platform for substance use disorder (SUD) in the U.S., today announced that it has entered into an agreement with the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy to utilize its PMP Gateway integration service to provide NarxCare to all its prescribers and pharmacists state-wide. PMP Gateway is a managed service enabling the integration of the NarxCare platform into electronic health record (EHR), pharmacy management systems, and other clinical information systems. NarxCare utilizes, analyzes, and presents information from West Virginia’s Controlled Substance Automated Prescription Program (CSAPP) as well as additional data sources to empower clinicians to identify patients that may be at risk for prescription drug addiction, overdose and death, and equips those clinicians and care teams with the advanced analytics, tools and technology they need to help those patients. These invaluable insights and tools are presented and accessed within clinical workflow, up front, for every patient, every time.
NarxCare’s comprehensive platform provides machine learning and artificial intelligence-based patient risk scores and other information in a visually interactive format to help prescribers and pharmacists quickly identify potential signs of addiction. NarxCare also helps clinicians connect patients with additional resources within their community if needed, such as medication-assisted treatment. By delivering NarxCare and CSAPP information within workflow through PMP Gateway, this one-click process eliminates the need for prescribers and pharmacists to manually log into the CSAPP website separately and then enter a patient’s name and demographics to search for them. By providing easy, one-click access to real-time information and insights, Appriss Health helps healthcare providers and pharmacists to better evaluate and quickly intervene on the behalf of patients.
By giving prescribers and pharmacists point-of-care access to the state’s prescription drug monitoring program, West Virginia is further enhancing their aggressive, multi-pronged approach to curbing the opioid epidemic in the state. West Virginia has been significantly impacted by the opioid epidemic and had the highest overdose death rate in the nation, with more than 884 deaths in 2016, the most recent full year for which data is available from CDC. The implementation of NarxCare goes well beyond the PDMP data and outlines the care strategy that’s necessary when dealing with patients impacted by the opioid epidemic. It clearly outlines when there is a potential problem and efficiently and effectively alerts clinicians that something needs to be done right then and there.
“The progress that West Virginia has made in the past year, under innovative leadership, is very impressive and should be recognized,” said Rob Cohen, president of Appriss Health. “Our technology will help to further build on this positive momentum, giving all West Virginia prescribers and pharmacists easy access to incredibly powerful insights, care team coordination, and patient resources to better identify drug addiction before it starts, and importantly, accelerate the path to treatment for those who need it.”
